The January forecast for Northern Michigan Google search interest predicts similar search interest to the December forecast which is similar to previous years. The Upper Peninsula forecast is lower than the December forecast and shows slightly lower search interest from previous years.
For January, I have a special edition segment on Lower Peninsula places with relatively high search interest in January-March. As a whole, the Lower Peninsula has relatively lower search interest during the winter than the Upper Peninsula. However, some Lower Peninsula places still have higher search interest due to winter recreation. I identified seven of these places which are forecasted to have relatively high search interest this year.
This is likely the final forecast using my current methodology. I will soon be adopting a new method to reduce month to month volatility in forecasts. These will use a similar framework to now, but tweak how individual place forecasts are aggregated by peninsula, change how seasonality and differencing is accounted for, and eliminate some weather variables with unreliable forecasts.
